Have you ever caught yourself wondering how a restaurant prepares a particular meal? Have you tried to recreate this dish in your own home? The tips contained in this article will help you improve your favorite dishes, as well as create new ones. All different types of people enjoy cooking as a relaxing hobby.

Replace your spices every six months at the very least. When spices are stored for too long, their flavor degrades, resulting in a less potent spice. When you know you're not going to be using a spice for a long time, give it away to someone in your family or to a friend before it loses its flavor.

When prepping a salad for a potluck or for serving later in the day, layer it wisely. Place the juiciest ingredients, such as tomatoes, on the bottom of the bowl, and settle the lettuce or other ingredients that are prone to wilting or sogginess on the top.

To make your cooking less stressful, get all of your ingredients ready before you start. By doing this, you avoid the hassle of making it through half of a recipe and realizing you are missing a key ingredient. It doesn't take longer to prepare beforehand, but it can certainly save time as you go.

When you do this, you can enjoy your favorite fresh fruits all year. This will help you to have fruit whenever you want it, even when it is out of season.

When you are making pasta you need to be sure to add a liberal amount of salt to the water. The seasonings in the water will infuse the pasta thoroughly. Salting pasta after cooking it results in a less flavorful pasta dish.

You can use some spices after food has already finished cooking. Spices like pepper, salt, cayenne, and garlic powder are all great seasonings. Individual preferences regarding the strengths of the seasonings in a dish may vary, though. Instead of putting them on your food let the people eating choose. Each person can then bring the food to their enjoyment level.

If you are left with extra sauce after a meal, find a clean ice cube tray to pour the leftovers into and store the tray in the freezer. This makes it easier for you to make a quick meal which you can reheat at a later time. Do not worry, the sauce will still be edible after it has been in the ice cube trays!

You are now on your way to being a wonderful at-home-chef! Don't hesitate to try new recipes and take risks in the kitchen. Experiment with the cuisines from the many different cultures of the world to add variety to your cooking.
