So, in this article we hope to celebrate Thai cuisine and bring some less appreciated facts about Thailand to your attention.
Found bordering Vietnam and Cambodia, Thai's are fiercely proud of their independence heralding 'The land of the free'. That's because, as European powers colonized neighbouring states, Thailand remained free. It is perhaps this central fact alone that is the reason for Thai's rich and varied range of tastes and spices.
Across the world Thai people are famous for their hospitality. This reputation has been exalted by a number of travel guide polls who have found this to be true among their readers. A contributor to Maclean's magazine, Chris Robinson tells a story of meeting a Thai shortly after his arrival in the country. Shortly there after, he was given a guided tour to the man's family temple before being invited back to the family home. All this without sharing a common word of language.
So what of Thai cuisine? Thai food is unique because it blends a series of spice, sweet and sour tastes provoked by lemon grass, chilis and garlic. Another pillar of Thai cuisine is rice, notably jasmine rice, and you'll discover this complimenting many dishes.
